Fairtrade wins shoppers' taste test

Shoppers in Midsummer Place gave Fairtrade chocolate top marks in blind tastings against ordinary brands.

Local celebrities, including Big George from Radio Three Counties, MP Mark Lancaster and the mayor, Cllr Philip Gerrella, put Fairtrade to the test at the Sustainable Cities event on 24th/25th September. Visitors to the shopping centre were blindfolded and asked to compare samples of Divine and Green & Blacks Fairtrade chocolate with leading brands. Contestants prefered Maya Gold over Brand X (a leading commercial chocolate) by a huge majority ... on taste and flavour alone. The demonstration, by Milton Keynes Fairtrade Forum, shows that Fairtrade products are not just a question of good taste – they also taste better!

Big George says "I couldn't imagine life without chocolate. But the fact is, the majority of people involved in the production of the raw material have never tasted it. Why? because they can't afford it and the conditions they work under simply don't allow it. Fairtrade is the best way to make chocolate taste sweet for all concerned"
