Milton Keynes - a Fairtrade Borough!

Milton Keynes was awarded Fairtrade Borough status in October 2004. Over 80 people, including both Milton Keynes MPs, Phyllis Starkey and Brian White, and the leader of the Council, Isobel Wilson, packed into the Guildhall to see the Mayor, Norman Miles, receive this prestigious award from veteran Fairtrade campaigner, Bruce Crowther at a ceremony on October 18th 2004.

Fairtrade Awards: Brian White, MP; Debbie Greaves (Global Centre); Phyllis Starkey, MP; Cheryl Montgomery (English Partnership); Peter Williams (Sust!);
Bruce Crowther (Fairtrade Foundation); Norman Miles, (Mayor); Isobel Wilson (Council Leader)

Milton Keynes was declared a Fairtrade Borough because so many shops, cafés, workplaces and community organisations serve Fairtrade products. More
